K-9 Unit

K-9 Ranger and K-9 Roscoe

The Tomah Police Department K-9 Program currently consists of one dual-purpose K-9 and one therapy K-9. The dual-purpose K-9 team consists of Sergeant Cody Paulson and K-9 Ranger.  The K-9 therapy team consists of Officer Jayden Olson and K-9 Roscoe.

K9 Ranger is a Belgian Malinois/German Shepard mix. Ranger has been with Sergeant Paulson since April of 2025. Ranger was born in Beeton, Ontario, Canada. Ranger was trained by Working K9.ca. Sgt. Paulson and Ranger went through a weeklong training course to become a certified Police K-9 Team. Ranger is a dual purpose K9. Ranger is trained in Narcotics detection (Methamphetamine, Heroin, and Cocaine), tracking, article searches, handler protection, and area/building searches.

Roscoe is an Australian Labradoodle and has been partnered with Officer Olson as his handler since March of 2025. Roscoe has successfully completed obedience training courses achieving a “Good Citizen” status. Roscoe is working to complete the certified therapy dog process through the Alliance of Therapy Dogs currently. Roscoe’s primary role is to enhance department morale, alleviate anxiety and fear in both children and adults during calls for service, and contribute to community relations and events. Roscoe will be a part of the Tomah Area Schools to assist in providing a positive and safe learning environment. Roscoe is known for being loving, playful, and outgoing. Roscoe was generously donated to the Tomah Police Department by Blueberry Cottage Labradoodles, located near Osseo, Wisconsin. Roscoe’s grooming is donated by Ruff Cuts by Lorrie in Tomah.

The K-9 program is fully funded through donations from the Community. These donations go towards the continued training every K-9 team requires, the purchase of new K-9’s, outfitting squads with equipment to keep the K-9 safe, veterinary care, food and any/all K-9 related expenses.
